Ryan Johnson (born July 24, 2001) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted in the first round, 31st overall, by the Sabres in the 2019 NHL entry draft. Playing career Johnson played with the Sioux Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League (USHL) before he was drafted 31st overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the 2019 NHL entry draft. He committed to a collegiate career with the University of Minnesota in the Big Ten Conference (B1G). After completing his college career, he signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Sabres in May 2023 and was assigned to AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans as that team was playing in the AHL Eastern Conference finals. In the 2023–24 season, Johnson achieved a major career milestone by making his debut in the National Hockey League. This moment came on November 4, 2023, when he suited up for a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
